Trond Are Berge | Norwegian Fine Art Photographer | Nature is my Studio

For as long as I can remember, nature has been an important part of my life. Growing up in Norway, I spent countless hours exploring mountains, forests and coastlines, developing a fascination for the landscapes and wildlife that continue to inspire my work today.

That lifelong passion eventually led me to work as a mountain ranger in some of Norway’s most spectacular wilderness areas. Living and working in the mountains gave me the opportunity to experience wild reindeer, glaciers and remote landscapes in a way that few people do. Those years continue to shape both my photography and my way of seeing nature.

My Photography

Photography became a natural extension of my life outdoors. Rather than simply documenting landscapes, I want my images to tell stories, spark curiosity and invite people to look a little closer.

Nature is my studio. The mountains, forests, glaciers and coastline are more than subjects in my photographs – they are where ideas begin. Every season, every change in weather and every encounter with wildlife offers a new story waiting to be told.

Projectography

Alongside my traditional fine art photography, I have developed a distinctive artistic technique that I call Projectography.

Using a method I describe as “photo of photo on photo”, I create layered photographic artworks without relying on digital compositing or image manipulation. Instead, one photograph is projected onto another surface and photographed again, allowing different subjects, textures and stories to merge into a single image.

Projectography allows me to explore ideas that extend beyond the visible landscape, creating artworks that invite imagination, interpretation and personal reflection.

Wild Reindeer and Wilderness

Wild reindeer have become a recurring subject in my photography. Having spent much of my life working and travelling in Norway’s mountain wilderness, I have been fortunate to observe these remarkable animals in their natural habitat.

Norway is home to some of Europe’s last remaining populations of truly wild mountain reindeer. Through my photography, I hope to share not only their beauty, but also the importance of the wilderness they depend upon. Many of my artworks explore the relationship between wildlife, people and the landscapes we share.

Sharing My Work

Today, my work is exhibited in Norway and internationally and can be found in homes and workplaces around the world. Over the years, my photography has been exhibitet in cities including Paris, Florence, Tokyo, London, and New York.

My work has also been featured in books and on Norwegian television (NRK). Whether through traditional fine art photography or Projectography, my ambition remains the same: to create images that tell stories and inspire a lasting connection with the natural world.

Every photograph begins with a real place, a real moment and a real experience. I hope my work inspires you to look a little closer at the natural world and the stories it has to tell.
