Beskrivelse
During a mountain ranger patrol in 2001, Trond Are Berge and a colleague came across two large reindeer bulls locked together by their antlers. Having fought during the rut, they had become trapped and were unable to free themselves.
For days they had likely struggled against one another, driven by the same instinct that has shaped life in the mountains for thousands of years. As snow showers passed across the landscape, their strength was slowly fading.
After finding a mountain cabin nearby, the two rangers returned with a saw and managed to cut through one of the antlers, allowing both animals to walk away. The photograph is a reminder of the power, hardship and determination that are part of life in the wild.
